Friday Focus Morning Show – September 29

Economic development is a huge topic, but what does it mean to Sierra Vista and Cochise County? The City of Sierra Vista’s new Economic Development Manager, Tony Boone, joined us to talk about his vision for the community, what BRAC could mean for Fort Huachuca, the challenges facing local businesses, and why we must all work together to create a positive message about our corner of southeast Arizona.

Second Hour – Economic Development

In our first hour with Herald/Review opinions editor Eric Petermann we discussed a local citizen’s idea to remove trees from along the San Pedro River. Would that help to boost the river in the long run? We also talked about the SonoraFest, held in Bisbee last Memorial Day weekend. A number of merchants and business owners described it as a disaster, but the latest bed and sales tax numbers tell a different story. And was a report that labeled our hospital one of the worst in the state for safety a fair process?

First Hour – Community news and issues

Ricky Murray, an assistant manager at Target, came by during our third hour to tell us about next week’s National Night Out, where the community can come out and meet its first responders. Target has been sponsoring this event in Sierra Vista for nine years. Also, the 2nd Sky Islands Bicycle Tour was due to take place on September 30 to promote and raise funds for NAMI and mental health issues. Judy Tritz and Stu Carter gave us all the details.
